This is a wildlife book for children. Steve Bloom travels from the North to the South Poles to take photographs and finding out how polar animals--polar bears, whales, penguins, seals, and other creatures--survive in the harsh climate. There are photographs of the daily lives and habits of the animals, how they grow up, hunt, find shelter, and raise their families.

The photos are dramatic. A map at the front of the book shows polar-animal locations. In the back of the book a brief section explains how Bloom takes photographs of animals in the wild.

There are tips for children on taking their own photographs of animals at home.
