This book, part of Tribute Books series on local history, gives testimony to a short-haul railroad known as The Scranton, Dunmore, Moosic Lake Railroad. This railroad lasted a short time (just under 25 years), but set the stage for rail travel in the Scranton, Pennsylvania, area. Could it be without this railroad Dunder Mifflin would never exist? The book gives a history of the cities and people who were served or served the railroad. The text is augmented with photos and maps of the people, tools, papers, and cities. Along the way the reader learns about a fatal accident that ended the steam era and brought on the electric era of this small railroad. Westinghouse ads included in the book proudly trumpet this decision. The end of the book details the area served by the railroad, including baseball teams, events, fairs, and the like. Students of local history will want to read this book.
