The author begins her introduction be relating her personal experiences with refined sugar and foods with sugar. But she has a sweet tooth. How can she enjoy sweet things without throwing her body out of whack?

Well, she looked up natural sweeteners and unrefined ingredients. She experimented and baked and tasted and tested. She writes down what she learned. And along the way we find out that life is sweet and tasty with all that refined sugar. Yes, looking for and using purer ingredients is time consuming (and perhaps costlier). But if you have better health and a more wholesome mood, isn't that worth the effort?
