In my book, Santa Claus: Is He For Your Child?, I make the case that the message of Santa, as we hear it, is opposed to the message of Jesus Christ. Where Santa says, "You better be good", Jesus says, "Come unto me, you who are burdened." Sometimes Santa is portrayed in homage to the Bethlehem baby (such as the small statues with Santa kneeling at the manger).

I could like this book. The book melds all the names and attributes of Santa and ties it to the underlying story of the season, the birth of the Savior. And Santa isn't portrayed as earning anything! An angel gives him messages and a promise. He gives gifts on his own! And that promise? Because he didn't meet the three wise men and see the Christ child, he will live forever and see Jesus return!

This is a delightful story that can get parent and child to talk openly about the true story and reason for the season.
